This has led to a conditioning of the mind that differs significantly from earlier patterns. The ability to switch attention rapidly, recognize patterns within large volumes of information, and respond quickly to stimuli has become a natural skill.

Thus, what appears as intelligence in one context may appear as superficiality in another.
